Bike and walking

Unique environment

The area around holiday park Fort den Haak and Vrouwenpolder is perfectly suited for beautiful walking and cycling tours in every season. Its location close to signposted walking and cycling routes ensures that you can start exploring the surroundings directly from your chalet. Whether you opt for a cycling trip towards the picturesque towns in the area via country lanes or prefer walking on the beach and the Veerse Gatdam with views over the North Sea and the Veerse Meer, everything is possible.

Walking

A walk directly from holiday park Fort den Haak will be most enjoyable. The wide sandy beaches are just a few hundred meters walk from the park and are perfect for a delightful stroll during all seasons! The Veerse Gatdam, constructed in 1961 as part of the Delta Works, will almost automatically be part of your journey. With the beach on one side, offering views of the Oosterscheldekering (another fascinating aspect of humanity's battle with water in this part of the Netherlands) and the Veerse Meer on the other, with the historic town of Veere in the distance, you will never tire of the sights. The Dutch Coastal Path part 1, a long-distance walking path, runs along the entire Zeeland coast, with its dykes, dams, and dunes, and thus also over the Veerse Gatdam. A branch of this route is the summer route Veerse Meer; where halfway you take a bike-foot ferry from the harbor of the picturesque town of Veere to the other side, and walk back to the park via the former island of Noord Beveland and the Veerse Gatdam. The beautiful nature reserve Oranjezon is also a must-visit if you love walking. The chance of coming face to face with roe deer, fallow deer, cattle, and wild ponies is quite high. You can reach this 400 ha. large area via the beach or through country roads and the forest.

Cycling

Do you love touring the area? Are you an adventurer who likes to stray from the beaten path? Or do you prefer long trips on your racing bike? From the park, you can start your journey immediately. In Zeeland, you cycle along the water. Throughout the province, you'll find routes where you can cycle outside the dykes. But even behind the dykes, the Zeeland landscape is varied and beautiful in all seasons. Throughout Zeeland, there is a well-signposted bicycle node system, allowing you to determine your own route in advance. The routes run over bicycle paths and country roads, and along the routes, there are often several bicycle cafes where you can regain strength for the return journey. Generally, it can be said that the closer the route is to the coast, the busier it is. So, choose a route through the hinterland as well; there are beautiful places to be found there too! In recent years, several MTB routes have been developed in the area around Vrouwenpolder. The paths lead through forests along field edges and over paved paths. There are also several specially constructed tracks that demand a bit more technique, but nowhere does it become too difficult for the less experienced MTB rider. All of Zeeland is perfectly suited for kilometer-long trips on the racing bike. The biggest "enemy" is often the ever-present wind; so make sure you don't ride with the wind for hours, forgetting that the way back requires much more effort!
